Twitter Blue Features: Are They Worth The Price Of Subscription?

twitter blue

The latest Twitter product update is paid subscription called Twitter Blue.

It offers a variety of interesting features, including the sought-after ability to reverse tweets that have been (almost) published. Initially, only users in the United States could use the service, but now it is also available to Canadian and Australian users. A small fee of $2.99 every month lets users save tweets, arrange saved tweets in folders, customize the Twitter icon and app, access ‘Reader Mode’ and undo tweets.

How To Sign Up For Twitter Blue?

To subscribe to the service, you can follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Open the Twitter app on your iPhone, Android phone, or PC desktop. Log in to your Twitter account.
  1. If you are on your PC, you will have to tap ‘More.’ This is an option in the left sidebar menu. As for a smartphone, you can click on your profile picture to access the menu.
  1. You should now see the Twitter Blue option in the menu bar. Subscribe to the service by entering credit/debit card information.  You can also pay your fee via an Apple ID or Google Play account. Ensure you have money in the account you are connecting; else, your subscription will not be verified.
  1. You can go back to the Twitter main screen to access Twitter Blue. You will be able to do so once your payment has been verified, processed, and accepted. Once done, you can start using all features offered under this service.

The Twitter Blue software is a paid membership. Note that $2.99 will be taken from your account each month.

Twitter Blue Subscription Features: Deep Dive

$2.99 sounds like a reasonable fee, but are Twitter Blue’s features worth the money?  Here we take a closer look at the components being offered so you can decide for yourself.

Undo Tweet

Who knew (kind of) undoing a post could be so hype. The undo button does not revert already posted tweets, at least on the desktop site, but lets the user think about it for a minute (literally, a minute) before it goes public.

But wait, there’s more. The time frame users get to decide whether or not the tweet should go public can be customized. Users can set the time limit anywhere between 5 and 60 seconds. This delay can also be skipped, and you can post the tweet directly, just like before you paid a subscription fee.

The desktop site only allows users to undo original tweets and replies. They cannot undo polls, quotes, and threads. Users have to navigate down to the bottom of the site to find the ‘view tweet’ option to undo tweets. However, the desktop can be a bit…well… “buggy,” not showing you the ‘view tweet’ option at all.

Still, even for $2.99 a month, there is no option to edit posted tweets.

Ad-free articles

Users can browse specific news sites without ads through Twitter Blue. News organizations provide this service in exchange for a portion of the subscription fee. As an added bonus users are able to see how much money the organizations have received.

Uh…Sweet?

Bookmark Your Tweets

Users may save tweets to read them later using the bookmark tweets feature. This is useful for keeping lengthy tweets, valuable information, or even favorite quotations. This function, however, is only available on the Twitter app.

Custom Navigation Bar

Twitter Blue subscribers can customize their navigation bar. They can rearrange Home, Explore, Notifications, and Messages. Plus, they can also add more options for convenience. This may come in handy but is not a feature that most users would want to pay $2.99 for.

Reader Mode

The enhanced reader mode function improves the readability of tweets. It’s similar to a browser reader mode in that it makes lengthy text easier to comprehend. Using this function, you may display longer tweets and those that require website navigation to read the complete length on a single screen.

Color Themes

You can change the app’s color theme and the app icon if you are a Twitter Blue user.

Here’s how:

Open the Twitter app and go to your profile> Tap on the three dots in the top right corner and select “Settings and privacy>” Under “Appearance,” tap on “Theme” and select the color scheme you prefer,  and Voila.

You can also change the app icon if you have a Twitter Blue subscription. This feature is not particularly useful, yet some find it valuable.

Key Takeaways

The main feature most users love is the undo tweet option. However, it is essential to note that this function can only undo tweets and does not allow you to edit them. As for undoing them, Twitter Blue enables users to recall tweets and delay posting time. Users have a minute to decide whether the tweet should go public.

Twitter Blue’s subscription is undoubtedly affordable at $2.99. While the added features may be helpful for some users, Twitter seems to miss the mark when it comes to value, even at such a low price point.

There, we said it.
